U19 preparation starts

The Vodafone Fiji U19 women’s team has started its preparation for the OFC U19 Women’s Championship to be played in Cook Islands next month.

Coach Sunil Kumar said they had started the preparation with weekend camps for the team.

“We have started our preparation with weekend camps as most girls are students and need time for their studies,”

Kumar said they had the trials few weeks ago and now they have selected the best.

“This is our first camp together and we will see the status of the girls and we will be having weekend camps and final camping will be held in the two weeks of school break,”

“The girls have been participating weekly in the Vodafone U16 Youth League and they all look fit and we are just working on building their combination, “said Kumar.

“Six of our U-19 girls are in Samoa with the national team and we have 19 girls here today. (Saturday).

The side is drawn in Group A with host Cook Islands, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu while Group B will see American Samoa, New Zealand, Samoa and Tahiti. Group C is made up of Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia and Tonga.

The OFC U-19 Women’s Championship will be held from 30th August to September 12.
