A total of 35 players will march into camp today as they are set to undergo four days of national trials at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba.
Head coach Shalen Lal said these players were selected from the Vodafone Premier, Senior and Youth Leagues and will be on trials with the national head coach Flemming Serritslev and assisted by U16 head coach Sunil Kumar.
“The selection was based on their performance level with our selectors all around monitoring them. I have personally been to some of the major games including the last Punjas BOG where most of these players were in action.
“Apart from those coming into camp, we have a lot more about players to monitor across the nation who were not called this time and even some are in overseas,” Lal said.
He thanked the district coaches for using most of the U19 boys to feature in the Premier and Senior teams.
“The good thing about the U19 boys is that most of them are playing regularly in the premier districts which has given them more exposure and experience coming into the national trials.
“I take this opportunity to thank all the district coaches for using these young boys in their premier and senior teams.
“They (district coaches) are actually developing these players for us. The more they play the better they become.
“So yes, we are looking forward to a fruitful camp for the next four days.”
