After a goal-less draw in their opening match of the Vodafone Senior League on Saturday, Northland Tailevu and Tailevu Naitasiri have set its focus into the second match this weekend,
Northland Tailevu will host Nadroga and Tailevu Naitasiri will battle Tavua in a double header at Ratu Cakobau Park Ground Two in Nausori.
Northland coach Kritesh Prasad said they had learnt a lot from their game against Tailevu Naitasiri and would iron out the mistakes to face Nadroga.
“I am happy with the performance of my young squad because I did not expected the result looking at the experience of Tailevu Naitasiri side, nevertheless we have learnt a lot from our first match so our focus is now for the second match against Nadroga,”Prasad said.
Prasad said they were looking forward for the match against Nadroga.
“We know Nadroga is a good side with all the best players and some new signings but a draw today (Sunday) has motivated our boys and I am sure they will work hard during training this week,” said Prasad.
Former Rewa Youth and Senior coach Nigel Khan who is now in charge of Tailevu Naitasiri said they would be a different side against Tavua this weekend.
“I am really disappointed with the result today (Sunday) but we can’t blame the players because they are back after a long break. I am sure the draw against a youth side has taught a big lesson to my boys which will make them work harder for the match against Tavua,”said Khan.
Khan said the long break due to the coronavirus pandemic has caused the players to relax quite a lot and has affected their fitness level at the same time.
“No excuses but we have learnt a lot from our first match which has given us ways to improve.
“The Gold Town Boys are much experience side after playing in the Premier division last year but we will do our homework well to face them on Sunday.”
Khan added that Tailevu Naitasiri fans can expect much better side against Tavua.
The Northland Tailevu vs Nadroga match kicks at 1pm followed by Tailevu Naitasiri vs Tavua match at 3pm.
Tavua currently leads the points table a 3-2 win against Rakiraki on Sunday.
