Suva futsal side has retained their Vodafone Futsal IDC title after beating Lami 3-1 in the final at FMF Gymnasium in Suva last Sunday.
The HLB Mann Judd sponsored side came into the finals as favorites after been undefeated in the group stages and walloping Tailevu Naitasiri 4-1 in the semi-final while Pasifika Tents,Taxis & Tours Lami fought hard to beat Southern Forest Navua side 3-2 in the second semi-final.
Akitesh Kumar scored the opening goal for the Whites in the 2nd minute while Manasa Levaci found the equaliser two minutes later.
Deepal Singh doubled Suva’s lead just before the break after slotting the ball into an empty goal as Lami’s defence was scattered.
Singh got his second goal and sealed victory for Suva midway in the second spell after neatly beating two defenders in the 27th minute.
Suva coach Vishal Nadan was out of words but said it was an intense game and hats off to Lami.
“Also to my players they really put it out there, every strength they had they just gave it,”said Nadan
Nadan said they made a lot of sacrifices coming into this tournament and it had paid off.
“That’s the best part about it and I dedicate this victory to God without him we are nothing. And also to our friends and families and to the Suva Football Association for their support and this victory is for all of them.
Lami coach Imtiaz Khan praised his players for the gallant performance.
“Today’s (Sunday) result is bit hurting but hats off to the boys for the hard work.
“In last IDC we had a new team and this year again we had a new team and I think we deserve a win looking at the performance of the players today (Sunday, “said Khan
Khan congratulated Suva for the win and said they would come out firing next year.
This was Suva’s third consecutive futsal IDC win and also defeated Lami in the final last year.
Suva received $3500 for winning the title while Pasifika Tents, Taxis and Tours Lami walked away $1500 richer.
