AFL sponsored Suva has been a consistent performer in recent years and will be no pushover at the 2020 Courts Inter District Championships on its home ground.
The Suva side has long been amongst the traditional giants of Fijian football, but in recent time that Whites have been falling just short of the Courts IDC title.
The side has played the last two finals, but the title has eluded the team, with the last victory coming in 2014, at the ANZ Stadium.
The side beat Nadi 1-0 in the final through a Napolioni Qasevakatini goal.
Suva is currently amongst the well-performing teams and with the side second in the Vodafone Premier League, while the team also played the final of the Punjas Battle of the Giants in August.
The task doesn’t get any easy for the side as it is pooled with Punjas BOG champions and current league leaders, Rewa, ever-improving Lautoka and giant kippers Nasinu in Group A.
Coached by Maxwell Thaggard, the Whites have some of the best players in the country at its disposal.
The likes of current VPL top goal scorer, Sairusi Nalaubu, Laisenia Raura, veteran goalkeeper, Beniamino Mateinaqara, national striker, Christopher Wasasala, Ravinesh Karan Singh, Remueru Takiata make up the side.
They are ably supported by the likes of the upcoming defender, Joeli Ranitu, rugged Manasa Levaci, young Simione Nabenu, crafty Iosefo Verevou and Shahil Dave.
The Whites will be boosted by the fact that it is unbeaten on the venue this season.
Suva has won the IDC title 13 times, with an interesting trend being that the side has played well at home in the past tournaments.
Suva opens its campaign against Nasinu On Tuesday, October 6 at 12.30pm, before playing Rewa the next day at 5pm. The last pool encounter will be a Battle of the Cities against Lautoka at 5pm on Thursday, October 8.
