Suva climbs to 3rd spot

The Suva football side is in third place of the Vodafone Premier League points table after beating Lautoka 2-1 at the Uprising Sports Centre on Sunday

Replacement midfielder Ivan Kumar got the winning goal in the 85th minute and helped Suva get the three points.

Christopher Wasasala scored first for Suva in the first in the 37th minute before veteran midfielder Jone Vono Junior equalized for Lautoka in the 71st minute.

Suva got their revenge on Lautoka as Lautoka had beaten them 4-1 in the Inkk Mobile BOG semi-final last week.

Lautoka coach Anjinesh Prasad said it was a hard loss for them.

“It was a sad loss to swallow as we had so many chances to score and unfortunately we were not able to captalise on the chances we had,”

“We have taken the defeat and will move to our next game, “said Prasad.

“We have to really work hard on our finishing which we lacked in today’s (Sunday) match, “said Prasad.

Suva coach Kamal Swamy said it was a good match for them.

“It was a good sign for us as we have beaten Lautoka today after going down 4-0 in the BOG semi-final, “said Swamy.

“We missed some key players but we were able to score goals which was good but the problem is we conceded one goal which is more alarming and need to work on it because we were winning and that time the team went down and we have to work on that, “said Swamy

Swamy made a number of changes in the starting lineup from the Battle of the Giants tournament.

Suva will host Rewa this Sunday at 3pm at Uprising Sports Complex while Lautoka will play Labasa on Saturday at a venue yet to be decided.

Ba leads the VPL points table with 26 points, Lautoka remains in second with 19 points while Suva is now third with 15 points.
