Super-sub saves Navua

Super-sub Mannav Permal was the hero for the Navua side after he netted the winning goal against Labasa in the Vodafone Premier League fixture at Uprising Artificial Turf last Saturday.

Navua created a major upset when they stunned Labasa with a 2-1 win and kept their hope alive in the top level.

17-year old Thomas Dunn scored the opener in 13th minute of play with a powerful drive from outside the penalty box to give the Navua fans to celebrate.

The Babasiga Lions tried hard to fight back in the second half after they came from a goal down to level scores in the 69th minute through a Taniela Waqa header.

Navua kept the momentum after the equalizer, Permal who was substituted in 67 the minute with Apisai Smith showed his class after beating two Labasa defenders in the dying minutes and slotting the ball behind the net pass goalkeeper Mohammed Alam

Navua officials, players and fans were in jubilation as they have kept their hope alive to be in the premier division with seven points together with Labasa who has better goal advantage.

Navua coach Mohammed Shafil was happy with the win and the performance of the players.

“I am really happy the boys played according to the game plan and we came out victors,”

“This was a very important match for us and the boys have shown their commitment with the three points,” said Shafil.

Navua will host Ba this Saturday at 5pm at Uprising Artificial Turf in Pacific Harbour.
