Stage is set

The stage is all set for the opening of the 2022 Courts Inter District Championship tomorrow at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

More than 400 players will lace up their boots once again at this year’s which marks the 84th edition of the tournament.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel says it is going to be exciting and thrilling fixtures at this year’s Court IDC.

“IDC is always a tournament to watch and all the teams come out well prepared to win the prestigious title and this year is not exceptional,” said Patel

“This year once again our 20 affiliated member associations will take part in the tournament in three divisions, which are Super Premier, Premier, and Senior Division.”

“It’s going to be five days football festival with exciting fixtures in all divisions as all the teams have known their fate and whom they will battle during the Group stages after the pool draws were done three weeks ago and trust me it’s going to be interesting as well.”

Patel said the Courts IDC torch relay started yesterday and was expected to reach HFC Stadium on Wednesday before the official opening.

“Good news for the fans also that they can watch the games from the comfort of their homes after we sealed a partnership deal with the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation last week,” said Patel

“The games will be aired live on the FBC Pop channel and locals will have to fork out $150 for the 22 games.

“Overseas viewers can watch all the action for $100US.”

“With Courts support, a total of $44,000 will be given out in prizemoney. It is not only prizemoney we give out to the districts but we also give them preparation grants, traveling, and accommodation.”

“The winner of the main competition receives $25,000 while the runner-up walks away with $6000.”

“In the Premier Division, the winner gets $6000 while the runner-up receives $2000 and in the senior division, the winner gets $3500 while the runner-up receives $1500.”

Meanwhile, Tailevu Naitasiri and Tavua will kick the start Courts IDC Premier Division at 11 am at HFC Bank Stadium, and at the same time, Bua and Lami will start the senior competition at Bidesi Park tomorrow.

At 1 pm, Nadroga will take Nadi in the Super Premier clash while Nasinu and Rakiraki will battle in the Premier Division at Bidesi Park

Suva and Navua will take the field at 3 pm in the Group A fixture while Dreketi and Northland Tailevu will clash at Bidesi Park.

At 5 pm Lautoka will take on Ba followed by an official opening at 7 pm. The feature match of Day One on Wednesday will see the Digicel Premier League Champions Rewa FC taking on Punjas BOG winners Labasa FC at 7.30 pm.

The ticket price for the Pavilion for adults is $20 while for a child under 12 is $10. The cement and embankment price is $10 for adults and for children Under 12 is $5.
