Singh Signs Contract For 2017 Season

Former Ba and National defender Alvin Singh has officially signed 2017 season with Sydney based National Premier League 1 team, APIA Leichhardt Tigers this week.

Speaking from Sydney, Australia Singh said he is thrilled to sign with his new club.

“I am really happy that I have been given an opportunity to be part of this professional club, “Singh said.

Singh said playing football has his passion and joining a professional has been like a dream come true.

“It was always my dream to play in a professional club and now dream has been fulfilled.”

The 28 year old Ba native who represented Fiji in the Rio Olympics is confident of showing his experience and exposure he got from Rio to his new club.

“I have learnt a lot in Rio and I am sure to put all those with my new club and do my best to make my parents and fans proud.”

Club President Tony Racit said Singh’s experience would be a boost for the club.

“Defensively we were poor last season, and we needed to rectify that, any club with title aspirations can not be conceding 41 goals, ”he said.

“A player who captains a team is a leader and that’s what we want here at APIA, leaders, players who wants to wear our jersey with pride and in Alvin we know thats what we are getting. Hopefully he can shore up our defense and play a major part in a successful 2017 campaign” said Racit.

Singh will be also part of the Sydney Dreketi FC playing in the Fijian competition in Sydney.

Sydney Dreketi Club president Bobby Bhupesh Prasad said it was a great moment for Singh as he had joined Apia Leichhardt Tigers.

“The APIA Leichhardt Tigers FC is based in the heartland of Australian Football, Sydney’s inner western suburb of Leichhardt. The club’s home ground, Lambert Park, has been the Tigers home since its inception.”

Prasad said A.P.I.A. Leichhardt Tigers is one of Australia’s pioneer football clubs having been formed in 1954 in the suburb of Leichhardt – a club that has great presence and commands respect not only from our local community, but nationally.

“The club is a multicultural club and although still reflecting Leichhardt’s Italian heritage, the club is a multicultural club, with a large English and Scottish influence.
