Newly appointed Lami Football Association interim president Keshaw Ram Sharma is enthusiastic to take the association to greater heights.
Speaking to Fiji FA media Ram said he was not new to Lami FA.
“I was part of the reviving committee in 2010 and was an integral part of the association since then, “he said
“I resigned in 2014 because of work commitments after the associations early years of success.”
“We handed over to the new executives with the hope of carrying the association forward unfortunately it did not happened,” said Sharma
Sharma said they heard about the association’s failure and decided not to let the name of the town go down.
“We formed the committee again and here we are gearing up for the huge task ahead in the development program to be introduced in the district of Lami which was missing for past few years, ”Sharma said
Sharma said his main objective would be to develop its own players.
“I would like to revive the sport and develop district representation of players in the district and build on the district representation in our senior team, youth and the women’s teams, “he said
“Over the years we were banking on players from other districts, however, now we are looking at developing our own players and so we can build on a formidable side to represent Lami in each category.”
“It’s not an easy task but the support from the local community is immense and the excitement of football reviving in the District will surely bring the players to ground, “added Sharma
Sharma said that they had started the ground work to achieve their objective.
“We have been talking to schools in and around Lami for youth team. With the funding provided by FIFA through FFA for youth and women’s team will be able to achieve desired results, “Sharma said
“We have included capable people in our development to scout players for development and participation in the youth category as well.
“We are starting from the schools to local communities and are trying to include every individual who loves football and is passionate about representing Lami,”said Sharma
The association was de-registered this year after the previous management failed to comply with the statute and regulations of Fiji FA.
