Scott Embraces “Surreal” Senior Debut for Fiji Kulas at OFC Women’s Nations Cup

For 18-year-old Ka’iulani Scott, July 5 will be far more than just another match day — it will be the realization of a dream, a celebration of legacy, and a moment of immense family pride under the bright lights of HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

The New Zealand-based goalkeeper, who proudly traces her maternal roots to Totoya, Lau, is set to make her senior debut for the Fiji Kulas as they kick off their 2025 OFC Women’s Nations Cup campaign against the Solomon Islands this Saturday at 7pm.

For Scott, the experience is nothing short of magical.

“It’s such a surreal experience, especially being the first person in my family to represent Fiji,” she says. “I’m so excited — playing in front of them makes it extra special.”

Her journey to goalkeeping wasn’t by chance. It all started with a sibling rivalry.

“My older brother is also a goalkeeper,” she shares with a smile. “That’s kind of how I got into the position. I’ve always wanted to be better than him, so it was a great challenge.”

For Scott, donning the Fiji jersey means more than football. It’s a tribute to the generations before her and a gift to those cheering from the stands.

“This isn’t just my debut,” she says softly. “It’s a milestone for my entire family.”

When she steps onto the pitch this Saturday night, Scott won’t just carry her gloves and hope — she’ll carry the dreams of a nation and the pride of her people.

Head coach Angeline Chua has carefully assembled a squad that blends seasoned veterans with promising newcomers. Leading the attack is Trina Davis, a dynamic forward based in the United States, alongside midfield powerhouse Preeya Singh from US Merced. Yet, it’s the fresh faces — Scott, Anisha Dwarka (Jessup University, USA), and Akanisi Sorovakarua — who add a new spark to the team’s campaign.

Coach Chua’s vision is clear: to build a disciplined, united, and fearless side capable of competing with the region’s best.
