Rooster Chicken/ Scoops Ice Cream BOG| President’s Message

Greetings to all,

As the president of the Fiji Football Association, it is my pleasure to share a short message in this year’s souvenir program for the 2024 Rooster Chicken/Scoop Premium Ice Cream Battle of the Giants Tournament, now in its 46th year of existence since its inception in 1978.

The 2024 season has been a hectic one so far for Fiji FA, with numerous international commitments for both our women’s and men’s teams. However, thanks to the support of all our districts and sponsors we are on the right track to successfully host our major tournaments. The first major tournament in the Fiji FA calendar, the Digicel Fiji FACT, concluded successfully at Subrail Park in Labasa, setting a high standard that needs to be maintained during the second major tournament, the Rooster Chicken/Scoop Premium Ice Cream Battle of the Giants.

There has been much discussion regarding Suva’s qualification despite their ninth position on the Digicel Fiji Premier League points table. The decision for the host to participate was not made by me or my board but by the 21 Member Associations of Fiji FA. This decision was passed to ensure the host’s participation regardless of its standing in the league table.

As President of Fiji FA, maintaining a clear vision for the association’s direction is paramount. While progress may take time, it’s essential to acknowledge the complexities involved in football development and remain steadfast in our pursuit of excellence.

Our association has experienced significant growth, both in terms of staff numbers and overall development. With over 60 dedicated staff members and the recruitment of 12 full-time Regional Development Officers, Fiji FA is well-equipped to expand its operations and enhance services to players, teams, and fans.

Women’s football remains a priority, with plans underway for its development. The progress of our women’s team, particularly their admirable performance in the OFC U19 Women’s Championship and qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, reflects our commitment to gender equality in football. We are investing a huge amount in the preparation for our Young Kulas’ participation at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Colombia. Their qualification is a big achievement for Fiji as this will be our first women’s team at the FIFA World Cup.

Tournaments such as BOG play a vital role in the operation of the association as Fiji FA is investing a lot in the development of football in the country. I would like to extend my gratitude to Future Farms Limited and Asha Bhai Group of Companies for their second year as our major sponsors for the BOG. Without sponsors, the development Fiji FA has achieved over the years would not have been possible. Our partnership will significantly contribute to the advancement of football in Fiji.

To add more flavor to the tournament we are also hosting RC Manubhai/Apco Coatings International Veteran’s Tournament which will feature our former stars in the over 40s and 45s categories.

To all fans, a warm welcome to the HFC Bank Stadium as we anticipate the clash of district pride to decide the 2024 champion.

Once again, a hearty “Thank You” to Future Farms and Ashabhai & Company for their commitment to football and for making it possible for Fiji FA to stage this prestigious tournament.

My best wishes to all players, officials, and fans at the 2024 Rooster Chicken/Scoop Premium Ice Cream Battle of the Giants in Suva.

May God bless you all.
