Rewa favourites to win BOG title

Current Digicel Premier League points table leaders and defending champions Rewa will enter the 2022 Punjas Battle of the Giants tournament fresh from OFC Champions League.

Under the guidance of former Rewa and national rep Marika Rodu, Rewa achieved three back-to-back BOG titles in 2003 and 2004, 2010 and 2011, as well as 2014,2015 and 2020. Overall, Rewa has won the coveted BOG title ninet times since 1978.

 

Rewa is a team full of confidence, and has the ability to compete with the best teams in the competition. Churchill Park has been lucky for Rewa. They won their first BOG title here in 1979 beating Ba 4-2 in penalty kicks. They won here in 2003, defeating Ba 1-0, and in 2017 when they beat Nadi 2-1.

The Delta Tigers won the 2020 Punjas Battle of the Giants Tournament after defeating Suva in the final.

Bruce Hughes scored the lone goal of the match in the 44th minute of play to lead the team to victory.

They will rely on the experience of players like goalkeeper Mohammed Alzar, Peniame Drova, Kavaia Rawaqa, Gabrieli Matanisiqa, Setareki and Bruce Hughes, Ratu Tevita Warainivalu, Patrick Joseph, Alick Worworbu, and inclusion of former Ba,Lautoka and national rep Abbu Zahid, forner Nadi and national team striker Ruisate Matererenga and former Labasa and national rep Ilisoni Logavou will bring more depth to the Delta Tigers campaign.

In pool play, they face the likes of host Lautoka, Ba and an unpredictable Navua side. Rewa will start its campaign against Lautoka in the opening day on Friday August 26 at 6.30pm. They face Nava on Day Two at 1pm, and battle Ba in its last pool play on Sunday at 3pm.
