The Rewa Football side has moved to the sixth position in the Vodafone Premier League after beating Nasinu 1-0 at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Sunday.
Super sub Josaia Sele scored the lone in the second half giving the Delta Tigers the much needed three points.
Rewa started the match firing attacks on Nasinu defense from the starting whistle but superb goalkeeping and strong defense from the young Nasinu side kept Rewa at bay in the first half.
The Delta Tigers had three opportunities in the first half which was saved by goalkeeper Mohammed Alzar and defender Arami Manumanubai while Nasinu fired back with counter attacks but lacked finishing.
Both team went to breather locked 0-0.
Vodafone Fiji Women’s coach Marika Rodu who was on bench for Rewa made a technical change in the 52nd minute of play sending in Sela in replacement of Mohammed Ramzan in the left flank.
It was in the 65th minute when 16-year old Sela send Rewa fans in celebration after heading a Tevita Warainivalu cross past goalkeeper Alzar.
Rewa coach Pita Rabo said this was the most important win for them.
“To be honest this was the decider for our second round and we got the much needed three points,”
“We have been working on our plans for this match knowing the strength of the Nasinu side and Iam happy we managed to beat them again.”
Rabo said they had set up their target against Nasinu.
“We had set up our target against Nasinu and with the win the boys have done their best and my hats off to them, “said Rabo
Nasinu coach Shivam Naithan said his players played well despite the loss.
“The boy’s played well, we created lot of chances but we couldn’t finish. I knew it was going to be tough match because Rewa was on bottom of the table and would come out strong, “said Naithan
“We battled well but we considered a goal and we were unlucky today (Sunday),”
Nasinu is on fifth position on the VPL points table with ten points with better goal advantage.
