Reigning champs in tough IDC pool

The Vodafone Women’s Inter District Championship (IDC) 2019 draws was held at the Vodafone Corporate Booth, ANZ Stadium in Suva last week.

Defending champions Labasa heads group B along with Vodafone Women’s Senior League champions Ba, Tailevu Naitsairi and Navua while hosts Nadroga is in pool A along with Rewa, Suva and Nadi.

Fiji Association of Sport & National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) chief executive officer Lorraine Mar, while addressing during the draws, said she has always encouraged the women to step up.

“I have encouraged women to step up and that’s what all is about,” she said.

“It’s not about promoting women for the sake of promoting women.

“Within the corporate world, women are recognized not because they are women.”

Mar advised the participating teams that it is not only about playing football.

“To the women’s team, it’s all about the holistic aspect of being the player and I’m very pleased to hear that Fiji Football is taking care of you as players.

“It’s not only about playing football. It’s about education, how you can enhance your skills as a football player by making sure you have the right nutrition, right support, mental skills which is also very important, how you jell together as a team.”

The pool matches will be played at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka from this Friday, February 28, to Sunday, March 01 while the knockout stage of the competition will be held on the following weekend at a venue yet to be confirmed.
