The Fiji FA Presidents Five were crowned the champions of the Futsal Invitational Cup 2022 after beating Suva 2-1 in the final at Vodafone Arena in Suva.
Rajneel Chand scored the opener for the President’s Five while Vineet Nadan found the equaliser for Suva.
Prashant Chand was the star for the side netting the winner in the 25th minute of play.
Suva defeated Australia Whites 7-5 in the first semi-final while Fiji FA Presidents Five won 6-1 against Nasinu in the second semi-final.
The Futsal Invitational Cup featured two teams from Australia, Suva, Lami, Nasinu, and the Fiji FA President’s Five.
In the women’s grade Australia Women’s side defeated Suva 4-1 in the final.
Fiji FA national futsal coach Jerry Sam said the tournament gave a lot of exposure to our players.
“It was a great tournament and our players learned a lot from the visiting Australian teams,” said Sam
“I thank the Australian team for coming here and giving our players a tough competition.
“This was the first time women players played an international match and they really played well, “said Sam
“Congratulations to Suva Women’s futsal side for giving their best in the tournament and finishing second,”
The women’s competition was played in a robin format in which Nasinu, Lami, Suva, and Australia played amongst each other, and the top two featured in the final.
Meanwhile, Prashant Chand of Fiji FA President’s Five scooped the Golden Ball Award while goalkeeper Kitione Baleiloa received the Golden Glove Award. Deepal Singh of Suva Futsal was awarded with the Golden Boot Award for scoring nine goals in the tournament.
In the women’s grade, Suva’s Litiana Sigavinaka was awarded Golden Ball Award while goalkeeper Laisa Vuikaba scooped the Golden Glove Award.
