Praise for sponsors as teams gear up

Greetings to all

As you all are getting in the mood for the 2020 Punjas Battle of the Giants after witnessing  some exciting weekend of Vodafone Premier League fixtures I guess we all are excited in the start of this year’s first major tournament.

As you all know we have secured a new sponsor for 2020 Battle of the Giants Tournament and I heartily thank Punjas Group of Companies for coming on board and supporting us in this difficult time. They have been our sponsors in past and we are happy they have joined us again this year giving some hope and relieve to the people of Fiji as they will be refreshing their mind away from the pandemic. Without sponsors it would be difficult for a non-profit organization like Fiji FA to survive on its own and support from corporate bodies like Punjas Group of Companies makes our plan reality.

Our back-to-play football has progressed well and Fiji FA is happy to start its preparation for the first major tournament at Churchill Park this year.

The pool draws for the tournament was held last week and I would say it been drawn evenly as the all teams have been competitive in the final round of the Vodafone Premier League as witnessed by many fans.

Defending champion Labasa would face a mammoth task as far as its title defense is concerned.

The Babasiga Lions have been drawn in Group A along with the most successful team of the BOG tournament, Ba, the only unbeaten team currently in the Vodafone Premier League, Suva, together with the giant-killers Nasinu.

Host Lautoka leads Group B with the current league leaders Rewa, neighbors Nadi and the season newcomers Navua.

The pre-sale of the tickets for the 2020 Punjas Battle of the Giants will start from Monday at Lautoka City Council office and I urge fans to buy their tickets in advance to avoid difficulties as it will be first come first basis as there will be only 50 percent of the venue capacity allowed to watch the games.

The pool matches of the Punjas BOG 2020 will be played from 07-09 August while the semifinals and final will be played a week later from 15-16 August, 2020.
