Suva FC coach Babs Khan says winning the first match against Rewa was a positive results for the Capital City side in the Digicel Premier League last Sunday.
“It is always very important to start the competition with a win, especially after losing the two legged Champion vs Champion series against Labasa last month,”said Khan
“It’s about winning and defending the League title and we needed to win the first game to set a good platform for the remaining matches as we have set a goal to win the title back to back.”
Khan said he was impressed with the new players who stood out tall in the match.
“We missed some of our key players due to suspension but I am proud of the new players who really played well in the game.”
The Unique Rubber Stamp sponsored side Suva will face Moshins Insulation Nadroga side this Sunday in the Digicel Premier League fixture.
Khan said they would not underestimate Nadroga.
“We know Nadroga is a good team and they will come out firing against us after their 2-2 draw against Nadi in the opener,”
“We will work out a game plan and will see how things go on Sunday,” said Khan
Nadroga coach Ramesh Sharma was impressed with the result against Nadi.
“I think a draw in the top division and against an experience team is a good start, “said Sharma
Sharma believes the side will improve game by game.
“We just need to get the good combination and now we have seen the weakness in our side after Nadi came from behind to hold us,”
Sharma urged Nadroga fans to support the team in their campaign in the DPL.
“I request fans of Nadroga FC to keep supporting the team from the sideline to boost the performance of the players,”
“Please come and cheer the team as we want to maintain our premier status by the end of the season,”
The Nadroga vs Suva match will kick off at 3pm this Sunday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
Lautoka FC head coach Tagi Vonolagi after its 1-0 win again Navua FC.
The finishing is what can cost us the game because if we don’t finish that side, the other team will take advantage of going over to attack us.
We have been working on it but the boys are not just that confident to play 1v1 situation and put the ball in.
They are always thinking that applying power is the way to score goals as you can see what happened during the game against Navua.
Nevertheless, a win is a win as Navua also came very prepared. I thank my boys for the great effort.
Rewa is a good team.
They have a lot of good ball players in the team.
It will be our home ground and we hope to have a good outing against them this week.
We just need to iron out the mistakes that we noted from our first match.
Navua FC head coach Amit Prakash after its 0-1 loss to Lautoka FC
I am happy with the start as we went according to our plan and taking into consideration that Lautoka is a side with a lot of inclusions of some of the highly rated players.
But we went well.
One mistake costed us the game but that’s part of football.
Finishing is a major concern for us at the moment and we will work on it this week.
I know our boys will lift up the performance from where we ended in our last match.
I know Labasa will come firing after holding Ba to a draw.
But we will prepare ourselves well.
Nadi FC head coach Shalen Lal after its 2-2 draw against Nadroga FC.
I was satisfied with my boys and one the reason is because we came back twice in the game to level the scores in front of a jam packed Nadroga crowd.
It was the first game and mistakes were expected and now the important is how we will contain and lift up from where we left last week.
We have learned lessons from our first game and we will step up in our preparation for the match against Ba this week.
We will stick to whatever plan we have put up and need to work on few areas like finishing.
Ba is always known for football in Fiji and as always, I have a respect for Ba.
But all matters on the game day as to who performs better and we will definitely give in our best.
