Northpole in to learn

Suva’s Northpole Football Club manager Imtiaz Begg says their participation in the Vodafone National Regional Club Championship was a learning experience for them.

“This is the second time we qualified for the NCC and I must say the competition is getting tough every year,” said Begg

“We had some district reps and some of the new players in our team but we lacked fitness and that was the reason we could not win any game,”

Begg said they could not prepare well for the tournament because it was hard to get the players together for training.

“We only had our training for four days because most of the players were in festive mood and were away to village visiting their families but nevertheless we have learnt a lot and we will surely come prepared in this year’s competition,” Begg said.

The former Suva rep says the extreme hot weather in Sigatoka was a major factor for their downfall.

“The heat took its toll on our players and they lacked fitness but I am proud that despite that the players played their heart out,” said Begg

He added that some of his players carried injury but they played to their best.

“Some of our players played with injuries but for the club they did their best and I thank them for their commitment,” said Begg

Begg wished the four semi-finalists all the best for the tournament.

“I wish the four semi-finalist all the best and may the best team win, “said Begg
