The Fiji Football Association has made changes in the regulation of under 19 players featuring for the clubs in the Fiji FA competitions.
This was revealed during the Fiji FA council meeting last Sunday at the Ratsun Nadi Airport Apartment Hotel by Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel.
Patel said they would like to see more youth players playing top-level football.
“We started with a mandatory for all the districts to field in two U19 players with one to start and the other on the bench but under the new regulation, there will be three youth players to be included in the team,”
“We have seen coaches taking advantage of the situation by sending an u19 player in the premier game for five minutes and pulling them out which does not give the player much game time,” said Patel
“The new regulation will now be enforced where three U19 players will be on the bench and one has to play full 90 minutes and he can only be substituted with a U19 player,”.
“This is something that the technical department also has approved and Fiji was given kudos for doing that from other Oceania countries who have appreciated and enforced this into their own competitions,” said Patel
