The Nadi Football Association in conjunction with Fiji Football Association held an Introductory Referees Course at Nadi Sangam School from Friday to Sunday last week.
Fiji FA Referees Development Officer, Rakesh Varman, said over 20 participants went through the 3-day training course and would soon be ready for the local league games in Nadi.
He said this was the first step for anyone who chooses to pursue in refereeing.
“These referees went through the basic laws of the game from Laws 1 to 17 and together with practical sessions on the referee’s duties, the assistant referees’ duties and the new changes to the laws were taught to them.
“These referees will then be followed through so that they attend weekly training and they will be used for the local league games in Nadi assisting the existing referees.
“After this course and assessing their games, they will be called for another test where they will do the Class 3 Certificate and once they get this, these referees will be able to do the Fiji FA matches.”
The course was concluded by Fiji FA vice president west Jitendra Kumar.
