The Navua Football Club defeated NZ Fan Club Labasa FC 3-0 for the first time at Labasa’s home ground after getting promotion three years back last Saturday.
Former Labasa midfielder Melvin Mani scored the opening goal for Navua in the 16th minute.
The Babasiga Lions could not sustain the pressure in the second spell and allowed the Southerners to score two more goals through Captain Netani Doli and young midfielder Isake Naduvu.
Navua now has six points after four matches while Labasa sits in the ninth spot with just 2 points from four encounters.
Labasa coach Ravneel Pratap said it was an unexpected result.
“Unacceptable. I cannot accept that result as a coach and the players should not be accepting this kind of result.”
I think I have apologized enough to the fans. And I am trying my best to see that the team steps up. But now the choice is up to the players if they really want to perform it’s up to them, if they want to wear that red and white jersey, they need give their 100 percent whenever they wear it, “he told FBC sports
Navua football spokesman Saiyad Ali was overwhelmed with the side performance.
“My boys played really well given the condition of the pitch. We had a plan. I’m really happy with how the boys executed it. We stuck to the plan right to the end.”
Navua will host Tailevu Naitasiri this Sunday at Uprising Sports Center at 3pm while Labasa will face Nadroga at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka at 2pm.
