Navua remains on top

The Navua football side remains in the top division after walloping Nasinu 7-1 in its final match of the 2020 Vodafone Premier League.

It was a battle of survival between the two teams with a must win for the Giant Killers and a draw for the Anaconda Town Boys. The loss left Nasinu out of top level competition after finishing on the bottom of the table with eight points while Navua on seventh position with 13 points.

The Koromakawa Renta’s & Tours sponsored Navua side started the match with much determination as they got the opener in the eight minute of play with the boots of Brian Charitar who blasted in a powerful shot past goalkeeper Epeli Loaniceva.

The Mohammed Shafil coached side kept the momentum as they outclassed Nasinu on several occasion with the speed pressuring their defense.

Charitar got his hat trick in the match in the 32nd and 40th minute sending the Navua fans into frenzy.

Nasinu managed to find the back of the Navua net through Ronald Lawrence just before the halftime mark.

Navua was leading 3-1 at halftime.

Navua was on fire again in the second half as Manav Permal got the fourth goal just seconds from the re-start of the match with a well place shot past diving Loaniceva.

Both goal scorers were replaced in the 55th minute with Jesoni Takali got into the field in replace of Permal while Charitar was substituted by Mosese Balenagaga.

Balenagaga showed his worth in the 70 minute when he got his name on score sheet making it 5-1.

Nasinu could not find the rhythm in the match on the artificial turf while Navua showed they were better when four minutes later Monit Chand extended Navua’s lead to 6-1 more for the joy of more than 1000 fans gathered to witness the match.

Youngster Thomas Dunn found the next in the 89th minute to seal the victory and final nail in Nasinu’s coffin box.

Shafil was over the moon and thanked the man above for the blessing and guidance.

“First of all I would like to thank the almighty God for giving us the strength to fight till final whistle and I am very happy that we have won the match after a week of sleepless night, “said Shafil

Shafil said he had faith in his boys and knew they would do the job.

“I had faith in my boys and I was confident after the hard work and many sacrifices they will come out winners today (Saturday).

The Navua school teacher thanked his assistant coach Sailosi Danford for the helping him.

“I also like to thank my partner Master Danford he has done a lot for Navua and without him it would not had been possible too and I also thank all the officials and fans of Navua for having faith in us,”

He said his message to the boys was to go for a win and not draw despite we just needed a draw and they went firing.

“I didn’t expected the this big score line margin because we knew Nasinu is a good team and we knew we will win so hats off to the boys for the marvelous performance,” said Shafil

Shafil added that they would know focus on the Vodafone Fiji FACT.

“Our aim was to survive in the premier division so now we will work out things for Fiji FACT, “said Navua coach.
