Navua FC enters this year’s FMF IDC with a clear sense of purpose, determined to reclaim the glory they last tasted in 2009 as Inter-District Champions. After years of battling challenges on and off the field, the club now stands on the brink of ending a 15-year title drought. What makes this year different? It’s the resilience of a team that, despite the odds, continues to dream big, fueled by the unwavering support of their management team, led by businessman Rajeev Prasad.
For Navua, the journey has not been easy. They’ve experienced moments of brilliance, including a strong showing at the 2024 Digicel Fiji FACT where they reached the final, but consistency has eluded them. Their domestic league form has been a mix of highs and lows, and their missed top-four finish in the BOG further highlights the gap between potential and execution.
Though they last reached the IDC final in 2022, where they fell 0-4 to Suva at the HFC Bank Stadium, Navua FC has shown time and again that they are a team capable of delivering upsets.
This year’s FMF IDC represents more than just another tournament for Navua. It’s a chance to erase the bitter memories of past failures and reclaim the respect that has slipped from their grasp in the years since their last major triumph.
Their squad is bolstered by key players, including Solomon Island internationals Ali Mekawir, Jared Rongosulia, and Jackson Wale, as well as Fiji national reps Filipe Baravilala and Thomas Dunn. Their roster is further strengthened by the experience of goalkeeper Jovirisi Borisi, Kolinio Sivoki, Arami Manumanubai, Mathew Charittar, Rahul Krishna, Zainal Ali, Sunny Deol, and Simione Damuni. This talented blend of international flair and seasoned local players gives Navua the edge they need to make a deep run in the tournament.
A victory in Lautoka would be more than just a win—it would signify the rebirth of Navua FC. For a team that has struggled to find its footing in recent years, an IDC triumph would be a powerful reminder that perseverance, unity, and belief can indeed conquer adversity. The FMF IDC presents Navua with the perfect stage to reignite the passion of their supporters and restore pride to the club after 15 long years.
President Rajeev Prasad has instilled a sense of unity and resilience in the squad, qualities that will be vital in overcoming the daunting task ahead.
If Navua can channel their passion and focus, they have every chance of advancing past the group stage and making a serious bid for the FMF IDC title.
With their eyes set on glory, Navua FC is ready to upset the traditional powerhouses and rewrite their history.
