Nasinu’s final showdown

Football underdogs Nasinu will be out to create havoc as they make their last appearance in the premier division at the 2020 Vodafone Fiji FACT at Subrail Park in Labasa.

Nasinu, after ending their Vodafone Premier League campaign at the bottom of the table, bows out of the Premier division after surviving only two seasons to make way for Nadroga in a direct promotion relegation system. However, they will be playing for pride and glory despite being demoted to the senior division from next year.

No strangers to challenges, their pool sees them up against the likes of Courts IDC champion and host Labasa, Punjas BOG winners Rewa and established football giants Ba.

Always admired for their passion and tenacity, Nasinu has won the hearts of many at major tournaments, so expect a final showdown of terrific football prowess by the giant-killers.

The giant-killers were promoted to the top division after eight years in 2018 and made some major upsets in the past three years in the VPL and tournaments and they will for sure want to prove all critics wrong.

Nasinu is the only team in competition that has not carved its name on the Fiji FACT trophy but has featured in a final against Lautoka in 2002 but lost 2-3 in the penalty shootout at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Coached by former Nasinu great and national goalkeeper Tagi Vonolagi, they will be out to prove they are no pushovers after a series of courageous outings this year.

They do have experienced players to bank on, the likes of which include Leone Damudamu, Sekove Naivakananumi, Noa Seru, Tomasi Uculoa, Jone Naraba, Isikeli Ratucava, Luke Savu, Semi Vakatalai, Waisiki Ravouvou and upcoming young striker Vidhya Bhaskar who hails from Labasa. In goal, they will rely on the skills of goalkeepers Epeli Loaniceva, Meli Bavatu and the new-find Meli Junior.

They will face Ba on Saturday November 21 at Churchill Park in Lautoka. They play Labasa on Wednesday November 25 at 6.30pm at Subrail Park in Labasa and their last pool match will be against Rewa at 2 pm on Thursday November 26.
