THE Navua and Nasinu women’s sides registered wins in the first round of the Digicel Women’s Senior League Southern Zone last weekend at FFA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa.
Navua defeated Lami 5-3 while Nasinu won 3-0 against Northland Tailevu in the opener.
Asivina Varau, Pijila Kelaiwasa and Matelita Maikali scored a goal each while Rebbeca Ranadi scored two goals for the Navua side. Kolora Sucu scored double with Famiza Ali netting one goal for the Lami side.
Navua manager Losana Ranadi said the win was a boost for the team.
“This is good start and I am happy with the result and for sure the girls will boosted by the result,”
Ranadi said their aim was to qualify for the Super Six next year.
“We have set our eyes on the Super Six and the win is a step forward to achieve our goal, “said Ranadi
She said they needed to work a lot on their weakness before their next match.
“We need to work a lot on defending to keep consistency in our game as we conceded three goal against Lami,”
“Lami is a very new team and they really gave us a tough time and hats off to them,” said Ranadi.
Lami president Keshaw Ram Sharma praised his players for the gallant performance.
“I am not disappointed with the result but proud of the girls for playing their heart out. We had a very new team and some of the girls played for the first time and they really did well,” said Sharma
“It is not a bad result for us but we will try to improve in our next game,”
Meanwhile newcomers Rakiraki women’s side were walloped by Nadi 1-14 while Lautoka and Tavua played to a 3-all draw in the western zone competition of the Digicel Women’s Senior League.
