Naomi and Rao lead by example

It was a proud moment for Fijian women in football as two of their own were on the sideline during the Digicel Premier League match between Rewa and Lautoka at ANZ Stadium in Suva on Sunday.

Rewa women’s and national football rep Naomi Waqanidrola stood out as a coach for the Delta Tigers while Jemaima Rao was the fourth assistant referee.

Fiji FA vice president Susan Wise praised Rewa FC for having confidence in a women footballer.

“I think this is the first time I have seen a women coach in the Premier Level which is very good exposure for her and I thank Rewa FC for giving Naomi the opportunity,” said Wise“Fiji FA is committed to the growth of women football in the country and this is another step ahead,”

“I congratulate both of them for a job well done,” said WiseRewa FC president Nazeel Buksh said they had faith in Naomi.

“Well she has come from our system and has been with us for a long so we gave her the opportunity to replace Rodick Singh who was suspended for the match,”

“We are proud of Naomi as she is a C-License coach and a very passionate footballer,”

Lautoka defeated Rewa 3-0.
