After bowing out in the semi-finals in the last year’s Digicel Futsal Inter-District Championship, the Nadi futsal side aims to move one step up this year.
Coach Vikash Chand said they have done their best in preparation for the tournament.
“We lost against Lami in last year’s semi-final so our aim is to go a step up this year,” said Chand
“Like every team we want to win the title as well,”
Chand said this year’s championship will be more competitive.
“We have seen the development of futsal growing in the country and we expect tough competition in both pools so we have prepared accordingly,”
“Despite not having indoor facilities here in Nadi we managed to work out our ways in getting the boys in shape, “said Chand
He added that they have not included any other players in the squad.
“We have players who featured for us in the league and we have faith in them, “said Chand
Chand said they have included two under 16 players in the squad.
“Young Shaheel Valentine son of former Nadi rep late Tom Valentine and Waisiki Batina junior is also in the squad who is the son of former Nadi legend Waisiki Batina in goalkeeping.”
“We have included them and they will be our players to watch as they are young, energetic and skillful,” said Chand
“We have a good mixture of young and senior players and will be captained by Mohd Shalmeen and assisted by Shafim Buksh.”
Nadi will open its campaign against Lautoka on Thursday at 9.15 pm.
