Mahijibhai Hardware/ Calgary Nadi FC has proven to be a resilient tournament team this year, displaying their ability to rise to the occasion despite a mixed bag of results in the Digicel Fiji Premier League. Finishing seventh on the points table with six wins, four draws, and seven losses, the Jetsetters faced their share of challenges. Yet, their performance in the major tournaments truly showcases their potential.
After a disappointing exit from the knockout stages of the Digicel Fiji FACT, many might have written off Nadi. However, they quickly turned the tide by reaching the final of the Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream BOG. Although they ultimately fell 0-2 to Lautoka FC, a result that surprised many football pundits, their journey to the final underscored their capacity to compete on the big stage.
As Nadi FC gears up for the FMF IDC, they will seek to leverage their tournament experience and channel their resilience into a strong campaign. The Jetsetters boast a blend of seasoned players and emerging talents, each eager to prove their worth and showcase the depth of their squad. With the right mindset and strategy, Nadi has the potential to challenge for the title and leave a lasting impact in the tournament.
Nadi FC boasts an impressive history in the FMF IDC, having clinched the title six times and finishing as runners-up 18 times. Their last triumph came in 2002.
It has been 22 long years since Nadi FC fans last celebrated an IDC victory, a drought that has fueled the team’s determination to reclaim their former glory. Under the guidance of Canadian-based coach Raj Dayal and assistant coach Varoon Karan, the Jetsetters are poised to make a significant impact in this year’s tournament.
The combination of Dayal’s tactical acumen and Karan’s familiarity with local football has revitalized the squad, instilling a sense of purpose and unity among the players. With a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talents, Nadi FC is eager to deliver performances that will reignite the passion of its loyal supporters.
To further bolster their squad for the FMF IDC, Nadi FC has made strategic moves by recruiting two overseas-based players. Canadian midfielder Ali Nasseri, who played a crucial role in Nadi’s success at the Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream BOG, will return to strengthen the team’s midfield.
Joining Nasseri is former Fiji U20 representative Abdullah Aiyaz, who brings additional depth and talent to the squad. Aiyaz’s youth and agility will complement the team’s dynamics and provide fresh energy on the field.
With these key additions, Nadi FC is enhancing its chances of success in the FMF IDC, aiming to harness the talents of both local and overseas players.
The combination of seasoned players like Ame Votaniu, William Valentine, Siotama Kubu, Vuniuci Tikomaimekere, Tuiba Batiratu and promising newcomers, Shaheel Valentine, Vinayak Rao, Leo Lesumai and Mohammed Ayman could be the catalyst to guide Nadi back to glory, giving fans renewed hope for a title after a 22-year wait.
