The Digicel Fiji national women’s Under 15 team had a commendable showing at the OFC U15 Girls Development Tournament in Lautoka’s Churchill Park, finishing as runners-up.
Despite falling short in the final against New Caledonia with a 0-3 defeat, they showcased their potential throughout the tournament.
Their journey included dominating victories, such as a 13-0 win against Samoa and a tight 1-0 victory over Tahiti.
Fiji FA Development coach Louisa Simmons expressed her satisfaction with the team’s progress, emphasizing the valuable learning experience gained from the tournament.
“It’s been a great experience for me and the girls. We’ve learned a lot from each other both on and off the field,” Simmons said.
“This tournament marks a new beginning for all of us. We’ll take what we’ve learned and continue working to improve in the future.”
Simmons acknowledged the challenges faced by the team but also highlighted the passion and dedication shown by the players. “It’s been a quiet challenge for us, but I can see the exceptional passion these girls have,” she remarked.
“Overall, the tournament served as a crucial stepping stone in building a strong foundation for the team’s future success.
