Matarerega boots 2 goals

Rewa FC striker Rusiate Matarerenga has topped the Oceania Champions League goal scorer’s chart with three goals on his name.

Speaking to Fiji FA Media, Matarerenga said the goal and win were for captain Setareki Hughes.

“I dedicate my goals to our captain Seta who was watching us from the sideline after being injured during the first leg,” said Matarerenga

“I also dedicate my goals to the families and fans of Rewa football,”

Matarerega said he was proud to give Delta Tigers the win with his boots.

“When I joined Rewa this season I had in my mind that I will do my best for the Delta Tigers,”

“I was confident I will score again today (Sunday) because I kept praying for the strength and I thank the man above for giving me the blessing to bring smiles to so many Rewa fans and officials,”

“It was the teamwork and hard work of all the players and officials that we managed to qualify for the OFC Champions League finals,” said former National striker.

“As a striker, I always want to score and I know there were a lot of Rewa fans expecting me to perform and I am happy to be part of the Rewa family who are always very supportive,”

“I heartily thank coach Marika Rodu for having faith in me and giving me an opportunity to be in the starting lineup in both series,”

Matarerenga said his focus was now to help Rewa win the Digicel Premier League.

“My aim is to help my team win the first Digicel Premier League and I will do my best and extra hard work to achieve it.”

Rewa will now join New Zealand’s Auckland City, the Cook Islands’ Nikao Sokattak, New Caledonia’s Hienghène Sport and Tahiti’s AS Vénus at the OCL Final Stage in August with other member association clubs yet to be confirmed.
