Former national and Suva soccer rep Maritino Nemani has backed the capital side to excel in the 2020 football season.
The Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports is the new Suva football Technical Advisor and he will be working closely with new coach Babs Khan.
Speaking to Fiji FA Media, Nemani said he had Suva at heart and there was few things that brought him back to the team.
“First I wanted to acknowledge the request that came from the president of Suva FA Ritesh Pratap and I thank him for coming forward and ask me where I can help, I am a passionate Suva guy and been the player, captain, coach, president and I never left Suva,”
“Second thing is that I just felt that there was a need for me to come in and help where I can like the clinical technical stuff and guide the players along in terms of mentoring and put back something I like doing,” said Nemani
Nemani said he had an aim to have a competitive team and win.
“Everybody wants to win no doubt and that is a goal I have put together and have shared with the players and not only winning but build relationship amongst each other, relationship with other teams and more than football,”
Nemani adds another reason he decided to come and help the team out is because of the youths and he believes he can assist the young players in the Suva side to build better characters for themselves.
“If you look at the composition of youths in Suva side you know they are in the youth category and will be a good platform to try and advocate them, teach those values of respect for gender, respect for people and themselves, “said former Suva captain.
The former national rep said Suva would be a different team this season.
“Suva will be a team with clean sports and we want them to be the advocates for the fight against the domestic violence,”
He said he was happy with young Suva squad.
“I have strong proposition in that context because I believe in developing young players, I don’t believe in getting top end players.
“I have full faith in the management of Suva Football and the players and sure they will do wonders this year, “said Nemani
