Lions roar

Former Lautoka and Rewa striker Siotama Kubu was the hero for Labasa side when he netted the lone goal for the Babsiqa Lions to give them the much awaited INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants trophy after 22-years on Sunday.

Labasa defeated host Lautoka 1-0 to win its second Battle of the Giants tournament after beating Nasinu 3-0 in the first semi-final on Saturday.

It was in the 79th minute when Labasa goalkeeper Akuila Mateisuva took a long drop kick which deflected a Lautoka defender which came on the foot of Kubu who calmly chipped the ball over Blues stopper Beniamino Mateinaqara sending thousand Labasa fans in jubilation.

Labasa not only lifted the BOG trophy after 22-years but gave its president Rayaz Ali and captain Taniela Waqa first touch of the trophy and a revenge to Lautoka from the 2016 final loss in Nausori.

LionsStriker Siotama Kubu was awarded the Best Player of the Tournament while goalkeeper Akuila Mataisuva scooped the Golden Glove Award. Labasa also got away with the Fair Play Team of the Tournament and $17000 richer. More inside.
