The Premier League has always labelled itself the best in the country and finally, it is beginning to live up to the hype.

With Digicel as the major sponsor of the National League this year, Digicel Premier League and Digicel Women’s Super League have started with a bang.

The Digicel Premier League has been dominated by a few teams in the past but everything had started to become unpredictable as all the eight teams in the top division are evenly competitive this season.

Last weekend four exciting matches were played with no more than 7000 fans gathered to witness the opening four matches.

At Subrail Park in Labasa, on Saturday Labasa and Ba played to a nil all while Lautoka defeated Navua 1-0 in a nail biting clash at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Nadroga and Nadi played to a 2-all draw at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka which was an exciting fixture while Suva won 1-0 against Rewa at ANZ Stadium.

Meanwhile Fiji Football Association received a sponsorship deal of $2.85m over the next three years from Digicel Fiji last week.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel welcomed the support from Digicel.

“In tough times like this where we have been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, the big sponsorship from Digicel will surely assist us to run all footballing activities, “said Patel

“Every sponsor had reduced its amount and everything but Digicel came on board and we worked it out and today you see the fruits of it and now we are ready to kick start the Digicel Premier League.”

“Fiji FA is delighted to sign a new three-year partnership with Digicel Fiji.”

“This new partnership will enable for the continued growth of football at all levels enhancing young Fijians to show their natural skills and talent. No doubt our relationship will grow even stronger as we progress through the season.”

“This partnership goes beyond the game and it includes our digital upgrading, networks and other things. Very soon all districts will use Digicel network to communicate with Fiji FA and we have many other things planned.”

Patel also revealed that the Digicel Fiji FACT will be first major tournament of the year.

The group matches will be held from 14-16 May at the ANZ Stadium and the finals will be played at the same venue a week later.
