Labasa youth to create history

The Labasa U19 football side will enter the 2019 Vodafone U19 Youth League final play-offs with a mission which is to name the title to their name for the first time.

Team coach Sanjesh Lal said they had not left any stone unturned to prepare the team for the final play-offs.

“We have been preparing well and the boys are looking forward for the matches, “said Lal

He said the players were focused and responding well during the training sessions.

“The players are focused for these two games and we are doing our best in the training sessions, “said Lal

The Labasa school teacher who took the charge of the team last year is confident of winning the tournament.

“This is my first year as the coach for the U19 team and I have full confident in my boys that they will do their best to make me proud, “said Lal

“Every coach has a dream to start on high note and Iam also looking forward to achieve the same,”

“Labasa has never won the playoffs but we are hoping to change that this year and create a history after a successful season, said Lal

The Valebasoga native said he had a very talented squad which would give other teams run for their money.

“We have a very good set of boys and I am proud to say that four of my players are currently in the main team as well in the Vodafone national U19 squad, “said Lal

Lal said he has some players who are also potential for the national side.

“We have some good players who were left out in the selection and I hope they will be scouted to join the national youth side,”

He added he was not aware about the strength of both teams but was working out on his game plans.

“What I know is that Rewa is the defending champions and will be a tough battle as Ba but Iam working on my game plan and the boys are aware of the task ahead,”

‘The boys have set up their mind which is nothing else but to do their best to win,”Lal added.

He urged fans in South to come out in numbers and support the baby Babasiqa Lions in the campaign.

Labasa plays its first match against Rewa on Friday January 31 at 4pm and takes on Ba next day at 3pm.
