Labasa without 2019 hero

Football entertainers Labasa side will be looking to prove critics wrong during the  2022 Punjas Battle of the Giants tournament at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Labasa has played in eight BOG finals and ended their 21-year drought beating host Lautoka 1-0 in the final in 2019 via a Siotama Kubu goal. Ardent fans will be expecting a win, and there will be no shortage of support for them in Lautoka.

Though they will be missing their 2019 hero who has switched to feature for Nadi in the transfer window, the Babasiqa Lions will depend on seasonal strikers Christopher Wasasala and Ratu Anare.

The Lions’ fast-paced brand of football will be key for them in the Group stage, where they will go up against Ba, Suva, and Nasinu.

The side is laced with capable players like veteran goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau, defenders Taniela Waqa, Iliesa Lino, Ilisoni Lolaivalu, Lekima Gonerau, Sitiveni Rakai, Akeimi Ralulu Sekove Naivakanainumi, midfielders, Ashneel Raju, France Catarogo, and strikers Ratu Apenisa Anare and Christopher Wasasala.

Labasa side will open their campaign against Suva side on Friday, August 26 at 12midday. They then take on Nadroga on Saturday at 11 am. Their final pool match is against Nadi on Sunday at 5 pm.
