Labasa Football Association president Rayaz Khan has assured fans that their preparation for the title defense of the Pillay Garments Champion versus Champion (CvC) series will not be affected by the departure of coach Ronil Lal.
Khan said as far as he knows, things are well in the Babasiga Lions camp and the team will prepare well for the two-legged upcoming CvC against Suva.
“Yes I have received a message from Lal informing me that he is stepping down as head coach of the team,” said Khan
Khan said Lal mentioned the reason behind him stepping back is due to the severe damages of his household in the recent flooding caused by Tropical Cyclone Ana.
“He has stated in the message that he has severe damage to his property and household items and it would be difficult for him to continue coaching the team,” said the Suva businessman.
Khan confirmed that they would start their training from next week.
“We have started our preparation from Monday and we will give the chance to our assistant coach Master Pratap and veteran Taniela Waqa to lead the team for the CvC.”
The Babasiqa Lions will meet the Capital City side in the first leg of the CvC series at the ANZ Stadium in Suva on the 19th of this month at 7 pm. The second leg will be played on the 21st at the same venue at 3 pm
