Kumar to lead drug fight

Fiji Football Association wants to see football a drug free sport says Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel.

Speaking during de-briefing of the 2020 Punjas Battle of the Giants tournament, Patel said they conducted a total of 96 drug test during the tournament where two players were tested positive.

“That’s something good compared to past years when we had more positive cases but we want to clean football and Fiji FA is committed in doing such.

Patel said they wanted to make sure the players know what is banned because the test could pick anything.

“We have appointed Nishant Kumar as a full time physiotherapist for our national teams and also he will be going to the districts with our medical committee headed by Dr Ronald Kumar teaching players and officials what banned substances are in the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

“Kumar will be going to districts advocating players when the national teams will not be in camp,” said Patel

Patel said they were going hard this year was to prepare for 2021 when the Fiji Sports and National Olympic Committee would be doing their own tests.

“Next year in January FASANOC is coming on board with their own anti-doping and it is a very strict stringent policy like Wada,”
