The Fiji Kulas will face New Zealand in the semi-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™ Oceania Qualifiers, to be played in New Zealand in mid-April.
Fiji finished second in Group B after a 1-0 loss to Papua New Guinea at Govind Park in Ba to conclude Round 2 of the competition.
Both teams entered the match with two wins each after Fiji defeated New Caledonia 5-0 and Vanuatu 1-0 in their earlier fixtures.
Papua New Guinea looked the better side for much of the match and came close in the first half when Gloria Laeli headed a Ramona Padio corner against the right post.
The Kulas’ best chance came early in the second half when Trina Davis forced Papua New Guinea goalkeeper Betty Sam into a save from close range.
However, the visitors secured the win late in the match with Meagen Gunemba scoring in the 86th minute following a cutback from Mavis Singara.
Despite the defeat, Fiji advances to the semi-finals where they will meet New Zealand for a place in the final.
