The Digicel Fiji Women’s team aims to do its best during the upcoming Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in Samoa.
Head coach Angeline Chua had an extended 35-member squad in camp for the last three weeks, but it was cut down to 26-member inclusive of lone overseas-based player Preeya Singh who joins the camp this Wednesday.
Chua said they had a perfect camp, and the players gave their best during all training sessions.
“I would say we had the best players during the camp, and it was great to have two or three players playing in the same position which gave them to do their best to make it to the final cut,” said Chua.
“It was not easy to get the best players, but we had set out criteria that made it easy to select the 26 members for the final cut.
She said the players were given a week’s break after hectic three weeks in camp.
“The players will be returning this Wednesday as we have given them some time to meet and pack before we fly out next week.
The former Singapore national team midfielder said they would name the final 23-member squad on Saturday.
“We will have a friendly match with the Ba Academy Boys and then we will announce our final team, “said Chua
She confirmed that Digicel Young Kulas rep Preeya Singh who plays football in USA will join the camp while US Based Trina Davis has been ruled out due to unavailability.
