The Vodafone Fiji U19 Women’s team will be captained by Koleta Likuculacula.
This announcement was made by the Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel during the team’s farewell ceremony at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba last Thursday.
She will be assisted by goalkeeper Maria Elder.
Likuculacula says she feels proud to lead the team to the playoffs.
“This is the first time for me to be the captain of the team, I really feel blessed and honoured,” she said.
“I have been playing with the senior team most of the time, it’s a big responsibility given to me.
“But I know I can handle this because I have been with these girls from a long time and I know that whatever we do, we always do it together as a team. So I can know the girls will also be cooperative.”
She said the coaches have done a lot as far the preparation was concerned.
“With the help of great coaches like Christophe Gamel, Marika Rodu and Sunil Kumar, they have brought out the best in us to help prepare well for this tournament.”
Fiji meets Solomon Islands in its first pool match next Friday.
“We can’t underestimate any team as every team will be coming prepared.
“But we will give our best and with unity in the team, we can do it.”
