The Fiji FA Mcdonald’s Youth Development League for Under 13 and Under 15 kicked off last Saturday in Ba, Rewa, and Labasa.
Fiji FA Technical Director Timo Jankowski said the main reason for the league was to identify the hidden talents.
“The reason is we have the beautiful talent here and we have really amazing natural movement talent but it’s about giving opportunities so this is a pilot project this year and next year we will have Under 9, U11, U13, and U15 League in a bigger and better way,” said Jankowski
“It’s a very big project so from this pilot project we will learn a lot.”
“We are looking at the mixed age groups which are really special and something really unique and we should be proud of if you do these in a good way to mix the boys with girls to give the opportunity to both genders.”
Jankowski said they had a big plan.
“We have a long-term plan as we have 20 Clubs in Fiji and we want all districts to have young talents in all the age groups.”
“Football is about quality and it’s better to start with quality and then have the quantity and that is the reason we have kicked off this competition.”
Jankowski said the more talents are developed the better national teams will perform.
