Lautoka will be an unpredictable side in this year’s Courts Inter District Championship after looking at their recent performance in the Vodafone Premier League. They have been improving game by game and for sure they will be out to create major upsets in their Group.
The Blues are drawn with host Suva, 2020 Punjas BOG winners Rewa and Giant Killers Nasinu in Group A.
They have former Fiji FA Technical Director and Fiji’s only A-Licensed coach Ravinesh Kumar to guide them. Kumar’s influence is already evident in the team’s performance in the Vodafone Premier League, where they recently ran league leaders Rewa close and held Ba to a nil-all draw.
Kumar will plot Lautoka’s campaign in the Courts IDC and has experienced players to rely on. This includes Dave Radrigai, Zibraaz Sahib, Jone Vono Jnr, Edward Justin, Aeron Edward, Sekove Finau and Netani Doli. They will be supported by young stars Muni Shivam Naidu, Raj Pillay, Zainal Hussein, Merril Nand, Kevin Singh, Samuela Gavo and James Pillay.
Lautoka has won the IDC title 18 times and has been runners-up nine times since its inception in 1938.They have made a back-to-back title win in 2017 and 2018.
They featured in the 2018 Courts IDC final against Suva and won 1-0 with a goal from Samuela Nabenia at ANZ Stadium in Suva.
Lautoka will start its campaign against Rewa on the opening day on Tuesday October 6 at 7pm, while the second match will be against Nasinu on Wednesday at 3pm. Their final pool match will be against host Suva on Thursday at 5pm.
