The Digicel Fiji Bula Boys faced a tough test against Hong Kong-China in the FIFA International “A” Friendlies Tri-Nations Series final at Churchill Park, Lautoka, ending in a 1-1 draw on Sunfay.
Fiji started strong with a brilliant diving header from Dave Radrigai in the 18th minute, but a late equaliser from Hong Kong in the final moments secured their title win based on goal difference.
Fiji coach Rob Sherman expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, describing it as one of their best displays yet. However, he pointed out that a lack of concentration towards the end allowed Hong Kong to equalise.
Sherman emphasized the importance of maintaining focus for the full 90 minutes but remains optimistic about the team’s progress, noting that such experiences will be valuable in their development.
Captain Roy Krishna shared similar sentiments, expressing disappointment with the late result but commending the team’s effort against a strong opposition. He urged his teammates to stay focused as they prepare for the critical FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against the Solomon Islands in October.
The Bula Boys aim to use this experience as motivation to improve their consistency and resilience in upcoming competitions.
