Historic Home Debut: Bula FC Edge Hekari to Claim First Win in Ba

EXTRA Bula FC marked a historic milestone in style, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over PNG Hekari FC in their first-ever match on home soil at Govind Park in Ba.

Backed by a lively home crowd, the Fijian side controlled much of the contest and were rewarded in the second half with a decisive goal that sealed all three points and lifted them into third place on the standings.

Bula FC started brightly, dominating possession early and keeping Hekari pinned inside their own half. Nabil Begg came close to opening the scoring with a powerful strike from the edge of the box, only to be denied by goalkeeper Dave Tomare. Kaile Auvray also tested the keeper soon after, forcing a low save.

Despite limited opportunities, Hekari nearly stunned the home side early in the second spell. Rex Naime surged down the right flank and delivered a pinpoint cross, but John Orobulu, left unmarked, headed over the bar in a costly miss.

That moment proved pivotal.

Just after the hour mark, Bula FC found the breakthrough. Roy Krishna showed his class, creating space before threading a precise through ball to Adam Supyk, who calmly slotted it past Tomare. Although initially flagged offside, a VAR review confirmed the goal, sparking celebrations among the home supporters as Bula FC netted their first goal on home turf.

Coach Stephane Auvray’s halftime adjustment, introducing Zacariah Harang for Begg, added fresh energy as the hosts maintained their grip on the game.

Hekari coach Jerry Allen responded with attacking changes, bringing on Nathaniel Eddie, Logan Biwa and Kasum Gabriel in search of an equaliser, especially as rain began to fall over Ba.

However, clear chances remained scarce. A nervy moment saw Delon Shankar nearly turn the ball into his own net, conceding a corner that led to Joseph Joe firing over from a tight angle.

Bula FC held firm in the closing stages, with goalkeeper Didier Desprez largely untroubled, ensuring a memorable home debut ended in victory.

The result not only delighted the home crowd but also strengthens Bula FC’s push up the table, as they continue to make their mark in the competition.
