“Good exposure for the boys” Kumar

The Digicel Fiji Under 15s boys have returned from the OFC U15 Development Tournament held in Auckland with experience of professionalism on and off the field yesterday.

Head Coach Sunil Kumar said it was a great experience and exposure for the team.

“The tournament was aimed to provide young players with experience of an international tournament format including travel, competitive matches, and associated training.

“Players attended psychology and nutrition workshops as well as a Q&A session with world cup winner and UEFA ambassador Christian Karembeu as part of their development,” said Kumar

Kumar acknowledged OFC and UEFA for the opportunity provided to the young players these young players.

“For many involved in the tournament, it was the first time they have played outside their country, and it will help them in their personal development I thank OFC and UEFA Assist for the initiative,” Kumar said

The team played five matches of which two were friendlies.

The friendly was up against the Solomon Islands where Fiji lost 1-2 and drew 1-1 against Vanuatu.

In the tournament, proper Fiji thrashed Cook Islands 9-1 and lost 1-2 to Liechtenstein. Their final match was against Tonga which the Bula Kachis won 2-0.
