The Fiji Football Association has joined hands with Labasa Town Council and Labasa Football Association to refurbish the Subrail Park tennis court into futsal court.
Fiji FA competitions manager Amitesh Pal said it was a good news for futsal players in North.
“It’s a boost for futsal development in Labasa as Fiji FA has secured a Futsal Court for the development and competition in the north,” Pal said
“This was possible through a joint venture between Labasa Town Council, Labasa Football Association and Fiji FA,”
Pal said all the Fiji FA Futsal Development programs and competitions would be done at the Subrail Park courts from this weekend.
“All Fiji FA Futsal Development programs and competitions will now be held on the futsal court which used to be held on the schools ground due to unavailability of a proper Futsal facility in North.”
Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said futsal was a growing sport in the country and Fiji FA in an effort to boost the growth of the game has started to invest in the futsal facilities around the country.
“We have a few Futsal facilities in Suva but other districts does not have the facilities to train and play their regional league so we are now focussing to assist them by providing Futsal goal posts and also developing Futsal Courts so that the code could be developed without any hindrance,”
“We are also in negotiation with the stakeholders for a court in Dreketi and Bua, and if everything works out well we will soon be putting up futsal facilities in those regions as well,” said Yusuf
Labasa Football Association president Rayaz Khan acknowledged Fiji FA negotiating the deal with LTC.
“I thank Fiji FA president and its Board and Labasa Town Council Special Administrator Ami Kholi for looking at the development of futsal in the North.
“This will not only help the town but will also generate more interest in our players to develop their skills in futsal,”
“With proper facilities I am sure Labasa will be one of the best teams in futsal in years to come because we have good players but we never had proper facilities to play on,”
Kohli said he was happy to help in the growth of the game.
“At first I was bit reluctant but nevertheless we are happy to give it for the growth of the game,” he said
Kohli said the Court will be used on a multipurpose basis as there was provision of transforming the Court into a Tennis Courts as well.
“I am sure the futsal lover in Labasa will be happy to have a proper facility to play the game of futsal and we are thankful to Fiji FA for coming on board and negotiating the deal,”
