Futsal coaches’boost

Twenty Eight coaches from around the country took part in a five-day FIFA Futsal Coaching Level 1 course which concluded on Saturday at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

OFC’s Futsal Coach Educator Juliano Schmeling said FIFA provided a week-long course here in Fiji.

“This is just to keep the education and give some knowledge to the coaches, especially futsal that we just had a futsal championship here in Fiji and it is great to have the course here,” said Schmeling.

He said conducting courses would continue to be a valuable tool as a way to develop coaches

“I am sure this is the way to go forward, not just in the short term but for the future.”

“This will be the biggest step forward for futsal here in Fiji as we will be having OFC qualifiers next year,”

“We had a week with theory and practical sessions,”

Schmeling’s experience in futsal is extensive having worked with the New Caledonian and Solomon Islands national teams – he has also had stints involved with the game in Australia, China, and New Zealand.

Digicel Fiji futsal head coach Jerry Sam thanked OFC and FIFA for bringing the course to Fiji.

“The course was very important for all the club coaches because I wanted them to learn the coaching process,”

“The week-long course has equipped the coaches with learning tools and I am sure they will implement this in their clubs,”

“The growth of futsal is demanding and growing now and this is a way to improve the game here,” said Sam

“I thank all the participants for giving their best for the futsal in the country,” said Sam
