Fusion claims beach soccer crown

Fusion Club of Lami was crowned the champions of Digicel Beach Soccer Championship last Saturday at Fiji Sports Council Beach Soccer field in Laucala.

The side defeated PTB FC 4-1 in the final after a 3-2 win over Brother FC in the semi-final.

Club founder and player Kavnil Lal said it was a great achievement for his club.

“This is the first time we played beach soccer and winning the title is a great achievement on our debut,” said Lal

“It was a great opportunity for us to play this code and I am proud the boys did well despite playing in the heat,”

“It was not easy to play in the hot sun with burning sand but the boys did all for the club so hats off to them.

“All while we have been playing futsal as a team in Lami Regional Futsal League, “said Lal

Lal said he had been running the club since 2016.

“This year I had a new set of boys after most of my players have moved away overseas but I am proud of my new players.”

“Actually I was on the verge of closing the club but the new set of boys have kept my hope alive to continue,”

“I have a lot of passion and love for football and it was hard for me to continue after losing my former players but now after winning the title I think I will maintain these boys for next season.

“We are in the rebuilding face and we thought to give a go to the beach soccer and we all enjoyed it.

Lal said they would continue participating in the beach soccer competition.

“We will for sure continue playing this code as it is fun and interesting,” said Lal

Fusion FC walked away with $300 in prizemoney while runner-up PTB FC received $150.
