Four girls team join competition

Four girl’s teams are participating in the Rewa Secondary Schools football competitions this year.

Association president Elvis Goundar says the interest in girl’s football is slowly growing in Rewa.

“We started with two schools and then to three and this year had another school team joining this year,”

“We have Vunimono High School, Baulevu High School, Pundit Shreedhar Maharaj College and this year Bhawani Dayal College has joined the competition,” said Goundar

He said the competition was getting tough.

“We have seen the interest growing in our girls and the competition is getting tough, “said Goundar

Goundar confirmed the competition was played in a round robin format.

“The four schools are playing a round-robin basis and the pool winner will qualify for the Mini Zone Competition which includes schools from Rewa, Nasinu, Suva and Navua,”

“The winner will then book a spot in the Fiji Secondary School’s Inter District Tournament,” said Goundar.

Two games were played last Saturday at PT Shreedhar Maharaj College Ground in Nausori in which the host defeated Baulevu High School 3-1 and newcomers Bhawani Dayal College edged Baulevu High 3-0.

In the Boys under 15-grade Vunimono High School looks favorite to qualify for the zonal meet this after the side thrashed Baulevu High School 5-1 on Saturday.

In other matches, Baulevu High School won 1-0 against Nasinu Muslim College.

The Avishaan Chand captained Vunimoni High School under 15 side will play Nasinu Muslim College this Wednesday at 3.30 pm at Nasinu Muslim College Grounds in Nasinu.
